About ARISE

 

ARISE is a summer program hosted by NYU's Tandon School of Engineering. NYU Tandon collaborates with K-12 schools, teachers, and students to build careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). ARISE is a 10-week program that takes place at NYU, offering high-level research experience under the mentorship of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. It's designed for students with a strong interest in pursuing a career in STEM fields.
 

   - Program Length: 10 weeks (Monday-Friday, 9 am-4 pm)

   - Eligibility: High school students living in New York, graduating in June 2024 (10th or 11th grade)

   - Tuition: Full scholarship

ARISE provides a rigorous laboratory experience under the mentorship of NYU's cutting-edge research faculty. Students are trained in college-level research, explanatory writing, scientific methods, professional development, and ethics, culminating in a professional poster presentation. The curriculum covers interdisciplinary topics and STEM fields such as bio and molecular engineering, chemical engineering, robotics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, all through hands-on laboratory work.

   - Notifications of Match/Lab Placement: 2nd Week of May

   - Orientation: May 31th 1:00PM - 4:00PM EST In Person

   - Program: June 3 – August 9 (Remote DuringAfter-school Hrs in June/Whole Day programming in July/August)

Application Requirements

1. Academic Records
Include your cumulative GPA from high school through the most recent semester, and your average grades and coursework in science and math classes.

2. Preferred STEM Research Areas
Carefully read the lab descriptions on the research page and select the STEM areas you are most interested in.

3. Recommendation

Obtain a recommendation letter from an adult other than a family member. This person should be able to provide insights into your academic record, work ethic, and interests.
 

4. Essays
Address various essay prompts to showcase your interest and experiences.
